My New Life as a Writer

So…I’m off.

I leave for New York in the morning. It’s the big launch of The Dog Lived (and So Will I) memoir! Well, at least it feels that way. I’ll be at Book Expo America– the biggest publishing trade show in North America. I’ll be signing the Advance Reader’s Copies at my publisher’s booth. They printed 200 ARCs and gosh I hope there are 200 people in “the biz” interested in picking one up! After all, they’re giving them away free. By the way, here’s what they look like:

Holding the ARC for The Dog Lived (and So Will I) memoir!

Holding "The Dog Lived (and So Will I): A Memoir" ARC!

That’s my hand…holding my book for the first time. Can I just tell you how exciting that was? So, so exciting (and dang it, I was home alone. Seamus wasn’t even with me! There was a glass or two of Provence Rose’ wine when Chris got home though).

I feel like I’m launching into an entirely new life phase and I could not be more excited about it. I mentioned that last week the book was picked as a “BEA Buzz Book: Thirty Top Fall Titles” and an excerpt from each of the 30 books was included  in an e-book that went to any interested industry folks. You can read an excerpt here on my publisher’s website if you’d like (and I hope you do!):  The Dog Live excerpt.  Reading it reminds me what a long road Chris, Seamus and I have traveled.  But we like where we’ve arrived.

I also learned that MORE magazine is interested in featuring the book in their October edition. So I’m doing an interview with an editor while I’m in New York. I’m excited about that! It’s a busy schedule and I’m glad Chris will be there to help me find my way around…and we get dinner at Da Silvano’s restaurant Wednesday night. That’s Cancer Vixen’s husband’s restaurants, so I’m really excited about that! Plus, it will be a slightly early 8 year anniversary celebration for Chris and me. These are just exciting times!

More to come…

    Hi Teresa,

I found your blog awhile back and while catching up on some posts tonight, I started and could not stop reading the preview of your book. REALLY enjoyed it and have been laughing out loud while reading too-hopefully no one is in the hotel room next to me! Love your writing style and sense of humor, and really enjoy the blog. Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy! As a fellow dog person, I of course especially love the antics of Seamus.

Thanks for sharing the preview, and I’m sure the book will be a big hit. I know I’ll be recommeding it to those on the east coast of Canada :)

Cheryl–thank you so much! It’s so nice to hear from someone not obligated (family or friend whose hand I shove the book into!!) to tell me they loved the book. Seamus’s antics are diabolically cute, so I’m glad fellow dog lovers can relate! Thanks for stopping by the blog and I hope you enjoy the rest of the book in October!
      Teresa
